The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics conducts research in computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, mathematical modeling and analysis, mathematical statistics, and mathematics for artificial intelligence. Our teaching is conducted at all levels and includes mathematics, mathematical statistics, and computational science. Among our partners are international research groups, academic institutions, public organizations, and companies.

The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics is seeking teaching assistants for the autumn semester of 2025.

Job Responsibilities

The role of a teaching assistant involves lecturing in courses at the technical-nature science foundation year and at the undergraduate level, as well as providing guidance in the MIT building and during computer labs. Responsibilities also include assessing students' lab reports, quizzes, and exams. Additional tasks beyond teaching, such as being a contact teaching assistant for the Master's program in Industrial Economics or participating in activities aimed at primary and secondary schools, may also arise.

Qualifications

Applicants for the teaching assistant position should:

• be enrolled in a course at Umeå University,
• have at least 45 higher education credits in mathematics and/or mathematical statistics,
• possess social skills and be interested in explaining mathematics,
• have good programming skills.

The selection among applicants will be based on their qualifications, suitability, and experience with similar tasks. We particularly encourage women to apply in order to increase the number of female teaching assistants.

About the Position

The employment will be between 25 and 50 percent of full-time for a duration of 3 to 7 months, starting on August 1, 2025, or as agreed. We are also looking for 2 teaching assistants to work with summer support in analysis at 25% during June - August. Please indicate if you are interested in this in your application.
